St. Paddy’s Day Classic Guidelines and Rules

1. The draw will be made up of divisions.

2. Divisions will either play round-robin or crossover games depending on Men’s or Women’s Division.

3. From round robin play, final standings are established in each division.

4. The top two teams from each division advance to a single elimination tournament.

5. Seeding for the single elimination tournament will be preset and based on round robin play with the first place teams receiving the top seeds and the second place teams receiving the lower seeds.

6. Scoring will be:

    a. 3 points for a win
    b. 1 point for a tie
    c. 0 points for a loss
    d. Plus 1 point for each goal that the game is won by up to 4

7. Should a tie result in the standings – the tie breaker will be:

    a. Head to Head competition
    b. Goal differential
    c. Goals scored
    d. Coin toss

8. Matches will consist of two 18 minute halves.

9. There will be no timeouts.

10. There will be no overtime in round robin play.

11. Ties in single elimination play will be broken in 2 5-minute overtime periods (golden goal). During the second overtime period, one player from each team will be removed every minute until a goal is scored.

12. Kickoffs may go backwards.

13. All free kicks will have 5 seconds to put the ball in play. Opposing player must be 5 feet from the ball on all dead ball situations – this includes kick-ins.

14. All fouls are indirect unless in penalty area or over the foul limit.

15. Each team is allowed 5 fouls per half – the 6th foul kick becomes direct and the defending team is no longer allowed to set a wall.

16. Goalkeepers will have 5 seconds to distribute the ball.

17. The goalkeeper cannot clear the ball past mid-court with a thrown ball.

18. The goalkeeper can use his hands only in the marked off area.

19. The “playback” rule is NOT in affect at this tournament.

20. There is no slide tackling. A two minute penalty with be assessed for the individual and the team must play a man down during this time. The goalie exception is in the penalty box only.

21. There are no off-sides.

22. Teams consist of one goalie and four field players. An additional 4 players may be on the roster as substitutes (9 person roster limit). Official rosters must be turned in before the start of your first game and are frozen at the start of play. Rosters will be checked before the start of each match.

23. A player receiving a red card will be lost for the remainder of the game without substitution. That player will no longer be allowed to continue in the tournament.

24. NCAA rules will be in effect unless addressed in these guidelines.

25. Absolutely no black soled shoes will be allowed.

26. All teams must wear shirts/jerseys that are of similar color: preferably with numbers.

27. All teams are responsible for checking the master schedule for changes.

28. Every player must sign a waiver before playing in the first game. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of that game.

29. Anyone suspected of alcohol or drug use will be suspended from the tournament and asked to leave the premises.

30. The clock will stop for all fouls, goals and kick-ins in the last minute of each half.

31. Any discrepancies or protests will be handled at the sole discretion of the tournament directors.
